Periodontal (Gum) Disease
Periodontal disease (Gum Disease) is an inflammatory disease characterized by the destruction of tooth-supporting tissues. Gum disease develops because of the Microorganisms and genetic features the patient has. The severity and speed of Periodontal disease vary on an individual basis.
The first sign of Periodontal disease is bleeding gums. Gums become red, inflamed and have a bright surface appearance. These symptoms are often accompanied by bad breath, receding gums, bleeding, loose teeth and tenderness.

Periodontal Diseases can affect people of all ages and can present in different levels of severity. The purpose of Periodontal treatment is to help the patient retain the healthy teeth they have. Various treatment methods can be applied according to the type and severity of disease. Among these methods are: oral hygiene education, tooth surface cleaning, root planing, regenerative, reconstructive and Mucogingival operations. When early diagnosis is accompanied by necessary treatments in Periodontal treatment, the results are precise and patient satisfaction rate is high. It is worthy to note that restorative treatments applied on Periodontally unhealthy teeth are not successful in aesthetic and functional terms.

Periodontal (Gum) Disease
Gingival Recession
Gingival recession is divided into two groups: recession depending on Periodontal disease (Periodontitis) and those with (vestibular gingival recession). The level of Gum recession varies from patient to patient. Gingival Recession can affect all tooth surface, whereby the gums recede in proportion to tooth-supporting bone. An initial assessment at The LOOOK will allow our Dentists to decipher the treatment required depending on the patient.

Both types of recession can be localized (associated with at least 1 tooth surface) or generalized (can be associated with one or more tooth surfaces). Superficial techniques can generally be treated entirely by means of surgical techniques. However, root surfaces can be partially covered with gums in the case of progressed gingival recession.
When bone loss is high, it becomes impossible to cover exposed root surfaces of the gums through the use of modern technologies. Therefore, early responses may increase the chance for success before the progression of tooth loss.

The treatments we offer include aesthetic crown lengthening. This treatment involves lowering the bone just below the gum line to make the teeth (pegs) appear longer. Lip repositioning is a simple surgical procedure that restricts the muscle pull of the elevator lip muscles thereby reducing the gingival display while smiling. The other treatments we can offer is a Gingivectomy, the process of re-contouring the gum only or Aesthetic Crown Lengthening which refers to the contouring of both gum and supporting bone.
