There is no typical patient for breast augmentation. We see women who simply want larger breasts, some who want to replace implants, and some with breasts that sag after having children or due to age. Breast Augmentation: What to Expect
Breast implants are filled with either saltwater or silicone gel. Both options are very safe, and each offers several advantages. Silicone breast implants feel more natural than saltwater-filled implants. Regardless of what the implants are filled with, they all have shells made of silicone, they can have a textured or smooth surface, and can be either round or teardrop shaped.
Breast-augmentation surgery usually takes one to three hours. An overnight stay is not usually required. There will be temporary swelling, bruising, and some pain. Women with implants do not have problems with the detection of breast cancer, regular screening and mammograms should still be performed. Breast augmentation does not affect lactation.

Breast-Lift Surgery: What to Expect
As a first step, our plastic surgeons consult with the patient and evaluate their breast tissue, skin elasticity, and chest-wall dimensions to determine which procedures and options will be most effective to deliver the best outcome.
For some patients, we recommend inserting breast implants when a breast-lift is performed to help increase firmness and size. This is particularly effective for smaller breasts or in cases where volume is lost, such as after pregnancy. For women with larger breasts, our surgeons may suggest breast-reduction surgery instead.
Breast-lift surgery usually takes one to three hours. An overnight stay is not usually required. There will be temporary swelling, bruising, and some pain. Women with implants do not have problems with the detection of breast cancer, regular screening and mammograms should still be performed. Breast augmentation does not affect lactation. A breast-lift has a permanent impact. However, the breasts will continue to change with the body for example due to weight loss or weight gain.

Smaller, Lifted, and More Proportional Breasts
With breast-reduction surgery, we can successfully reshape and contour the breasts so they are smaller, more lifted, and proportional to a patient’s body. Our patients vary from young to older women. Their reasons for the elected surgery include relief from upper back and neck pain, shoulder grooving, and rashes caused by larger breasts. The surgery is very successful with high patient satisfaction rates and nearly immediate relief of symptoms.
We work with patients on an individual basis to make sure they understand what can be achieved, considering the amount of breast tissue to be removed, skin elasticity, and chest wall dimensions.
Health insurance might cover the cost of breast-reduction surgery. If a patient suffers from neck pain or rashes due to the excessive size of her breasts, she should consider contacting her health insurance provider to find out if her plan covers this type of surgery.
Breast Reduction: What to Expect
One of the most common surgical approaches involves making an anchor-shaped incision around the areola or nipple. The length of the incision is based on the breast size before surgery, along with its shape and the extent of the reduction.
The surgeon then extends the incision downward, along the natural curve of the breast. The breast is then contoured and the skin tightened around the areola.
Using this technique allows our plastic surgeons to make a concealed incision, as well as more precise breast contouring. We can then reshape the breasts and remove fat, glandular tissue, and excess skin. As part of the surgery, our surgeons make the nipple areolas smaller when needed, resizing them to be proportional with the new breast size.
The surgery itself typically takes around three hours, and patients are usually able to recover and go home that same day. Drains are not usually required. A supportive brassiere garment or ACE wrap will be applied post surgery to apply comfortable compression.
Patients will need to be seen one to two weeks post surgery for a post operative check up. Depending on how the incisions are healing, the entire recovery process takes approximately four to six weeks. In this time we recommend that no strenuous activity is undertaken.
For some patients, liposuction can be an alternative to reduce breast size. Liposuction is especially effective when only fat needs to be removed.
